A detailed quote includes the following:
☐ Part name(s) / part number(s)
☐ RFQ due date and desired delivery date
☐ Prototype, low-volume, or production
☐ 2D drawing(s) with dimensions and tolerances
☐ 3D CAD file(s)
☐ Material type, grade, and thickness
☐ Quantity needed (and estimated repeat volume if available)
☐ Forming, welding, hardware insertion, or other special notes
☐ Finish type and color/spec (if applicable)
☐ Any inspection, certifications, or special packaging requirements
☐ Delivery address and shipping preferences
Common Issues That Slow Quotes
Even great projects can get delayed in quoting when key details are missing.
Here are the most common problems that slow down RFQs:
- Missing 2D drawings (CAD alone often isn’t enough for tolerances and notes)
- No 3D files for complex parts, which makes manufacturability harder to confirm
- BOM not included for assemblies, causing unclear quantities and structure
- Finish type not specified, or masking requirements left out
- No revision control, leading to mismatched drawings and models
- Tolerances not defined, especially for holes, bends, and mating features
- Weld requirements unclear, including cosmetic vs. structural expectations
- Quantity missing, making it impossible to quote accurately
- Hardware not defined, especially PEMs, studs, and purchased components
