Participation begins with Phase I, where team members who demonstrate leadership potential are recommended by their direct supervisors and evaluated by department managers and the leadership team. This phase focuses on building a strong foundation through cross-training, understanding workflow across departments, mastering systems, and strengthening leadership behaviors like accountability, problem-solving, and relationship-building.

Real Development, Real Expectations

What makes the Leadership Development Program stand out is that it’s not just a title. It’s hands-on, meaningful development. Participants complete structured training, take part in DeWys University courses, work across departments and shifts, and receive regular evaluations and feedback. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s growth, self-awareness, and readiness for future responsibility.

At the end of Phase I, employees who demonstrate readiness may earn a promotion to mentor, along with a raise and increased responsibility. Those who aren’t quite there yet still gain valuable feedback and are encouraged to reapply.

Phase II takes development even further. Mentors spend six months gaining real leadership experience by conducting one-on-ones, facilitating team activities, and participating in customer and vendor visits. It’s a true test-drive of leadership, supported by training, coaching, and accountability every step of the way.

Successful completion of Phase II can lead to full leadership roles, with salary, title, and placement discussed directly with the employee. That’s what real career growth looks like.
